Remote Confusion

So I was looking at funny images online, and I came across this.

Labelled remotes with tape over extraneous buttons

Note how tape covers the buttons that aren't used, and the mysterious buttons that no one knows the purpose of. Also notice that the remotes are labelled with their function: this remote controls the television, this one controls the DVD player. All your confusion, all your frustration, quickly averted by these useful features.
This, of course, is perfect if you're one of those people who can never recall what each remote does, or what buttons control what. It also works well if you're a guest at someone's house. Allow me to explain.

Guest:  Why doesn't the remote work?
Host:  Oh, that only works with the cable box.
Guest:  But it has a volume control...
Host:  Yeah, but it doesn't work with the TV. You have to use the TV remote over there.
Guest: (picks up another remote) Then what does this remote do?
Host:  Oh, that was for the old cable box. It doesn't do anything.
Guest:  Then why is it here?
Host:  (shrugs) We just never got rid of it. We really should do that someday...
Guest: Okay then, so which remotes do work, and for what?
Host:  Well, you have to use this remote for the volume, this remote to change from TV to VCR or DVD, this remote for the DVD, this remote to turn on the VCR, this remote to operate the cable box, and this remote for changing the channel. It's fairly straightforward. (piles thirty-two remotes onto your lap)
Guest:  On second thought, I think I'll watch TV at home.

So remember, folks, label your remotes. It's the future, and it reduces migraines by 13%!
