The Mutt Manifestation

As we get into the dog days of summer, I thought I'd tell a story about dogs. A story of animal magnetism. A story about manifesting a million dogs.
So, I was taking a walk at the park the other day. While I was wandering around, I called someone and chatted with them for a while. It had been a while since we talked, so we had a bit to catch up on. Sometime during the phone conversation, I saw a man playing fetch with his dog. He threw the toy, and the dog went running after it. But instead of heading back towards its owner, the dog went in a different direction. The man tried to call his pet over, but the dog proceeded to come up to me instead. I pet it for a minute, until the man succeeded in getting his dog's attention. The guy was apologetic, but I wasn't bothered, because I got to pet a dog.

Scruffy black terrier mix with a white blaze on its chest. It has a blue eye and a brown eye, and is on a leash, sitting next to a woman.

A little while later, after I was off the phone, I saw a group of people with their dogs. As I got closer, I saw that they seemed to be doing some sort of training exercise, and noticed a dog training van in the parking lot. I jokingly thought that if the class did an activity that involved people petting the dogs, I'd totally be in.
I continued walking for a bit, and as I passed them again, a guy from the group came up to me. "Hey, do you like dogs?"
"Yeah." I said, a bit confused. Had he noticed me staring at the furry students?
"Do you want to help with an exercise we're doing, having the dogs greet a stranger?" he asked. "Is that something you'd be interested in doing?"
I stared at him for a minute in disbelief. "Are you the voice of temptation?"

So all the people lined up, and took turns coming up to me with their dogs. A couple of people opted out of the exercise, I guess not confident in how their dogs would react. But most of them had their dogs sit, and then I got to pet them. There were a few shepherd dogs, a dalmatian, a couple of poodle/retriever mixes, and some terriers, among others. Since I had knelt down, a few of them took the advantage to try licking my face.
All too soon, it was over, the last dog in line petted. The class ended, the dogs left with their owners, and I had to go back to just walking around. But I pet five million dogs, and no one can take that away from me! No one!
...Okay, I'll try to be normal and somewhat sane now. All and all, it was a nice walk that day. Talked to a friend, and got to interact with a bunch of dogs.
Check back in a couple of weeks, when I talk about dogs some more. It's the dog days of summer, folks.
