Underrated Things

There are some things that are just really awesome, and it's surprising that they're not more popular. Maybe it's a video game from years ago, or a cool concept from your childhood.

NES game cartridge- Kirby's Adventure
I may have played this game a few hundred thousand times as a kid.

Glow-in-the-Dark Stuff

As a child, I had some figurines of different animals, made entirely of a glow-in-the-dark material. And at one point, I had a watch that displayed the time both digitally and with analog hands. These hands were glow-in-the-dark, which was cool. (Of course, the hands stopped working at some point and only the digital part worked, but...)
Then there were other glow-in-the-dark things, like beads. Seems like the perfect thing to make a bracelet with, am I right? And I would sometimes imagine, "What if you painted the ceiling of a room black, then put dots of glow-in-the-dark paint on it like stars in the night sky? That would be so epic."

Mood Jewelry

I've seen things like rings and necklaces that are said to change color depending on your mood. Realistically, it's not affected by your mood, just the temperature of the color-changing material. But I thought it was such a cool concept. At room temperature, it's blue. Hold it in your hand, and your body heat turns it purple. Go outside during extreme temperatures, and who knows what color you'll get? Hey, the winter air turned it amber, awesome! (I may have had a little too much fun playing with this.)

Star-shaped mood necklace

The only disappointment is that the mood jewelry I got always seemed to be made with a cheap metal alloy, which would eventually discolor. If they could make good quality mood jewelry, that would be great.

Childhood

Let's face it, the days of having less responsibilities had their advantages. You don't have to worry about all the mundane grownup stuff like bills, tax season, or the funny sound your car started making last week. You have less chores, more free time... Plus, you don't have to act mature. If you want to play pretend all day, furnish your dollhouse, be a cat or dog, who's gonna judge you?

Pillow Forts

Grab some couch cushions, blankets, and whatever else you might need. We're going to make... a pillow fort!
I mean, come on. It's a big soft cozy fort, built with your own two hands. (And maybe the hands of some friends.) As a kid, we had some cushions from an old sofa. These could be used as a makeshift bed when friends stayed over, or they could be used as the walls of a magnificent fort. I would wedge them between my bed and fish tank, or between the bed and closet doors when we moved to a new house. Blankets served as the ceiling, with another soft blanket placed on the floor.

Big Bang Theory- Sheldon and Amy build a fort with blankets

There was a phase when I was really into making these forts. Friends would come over, and we'd build a fort and just hang out in it. Sometimes I'd leave the forts up for a while. At one point, a couple of my stuffed animals lived in a fort I'd made. Ah, good times.

Chilled Mint-Chocolate Sweets

Ah, Thin Mints. The delectable treat, one of the most popular varieties of Girl Scout cookies. And there's also the popular candy known as Junior Mints.

Now, these sweets don't belong at room temperature. They belong in the refrigerator or freezer. Why, you may ask? Well, there's an excellent logic behind it.
Consider the fabled mint flavor. Said to have a cooling sensation, this effect is intensified when the food is chilled. It just makes the minty awesomeness ever greater.
And in the case of Junior Mints, they're basically a mint filling coated with dark chocolate. The mint inside is fairly soft. However, when put in the fridge or freezer, they become more firm. And they're just better that way.

Little-Known Media

The 1963 Disney film 'The Three Lives of Thomasina' is really great. But for whatever reason, few people have ever seen the movie, or even heard of it. How can this be?

Then there's the instances where you find a really great music artist, but for some reason, they're not very popular. Perhaps few people are familiar with them at all. Like the Christian artist Jonathan Thulin, who released some pretty cool songs.

What are some things you think are underrated? Let me know in the comments.

    1. Well, some people have no taste. 😝 Next you'll probably be saying you hate Toblerone, or something crazy like that.
